About Lets Play Music
As a Music Education student at Brigham Young University, I thrilled at the teaching philosophies of early music education. As I learned about the masters Kodaly, Orff and Dalcroze, their ideas sounded so appealing and accurate, that I yearned to take their findings and apply them in my own teaching. I was surprised and disappointed to learn that there was not a program that incorporated all of these philosophies.
With the arrival of my own children, the desire to teach music the “right” way returned and I started my quest for programs that implemented the concepts I had studied and learned. I searched for a program that utilized principles for internalizing music skills, such as solfeggio, folk songs and rhythmic movement, that would then adapt these skills to piano playing. I could not find a program that stressed music literacy. When my daughter was two, I began writing my own curriculum and a year later, “Let’s Play Music” was born.
After my first two years of teaching, the need for more teachers became evident and since that time, we have trained several new teachers each year, arriving at a total of 109 teachers in 19 states.  We now have Teacher Advisors Marci Flowers, Julie Fischbeck, Jenny Smith and Melissa Lunt and along with our Materials Development Manager, Sanya Fenn, they comprise our Advisory Board.
I currently reside in Mesa, Arizona with my husband and five children ages 5-14. The three oldest have graduated from Let’s Play Music and are excelling in their private piano studies and other music venues.
I sincerely hope that this program may be used to bring the joy of music into the lives of children and families, and that it will promote musical excellence through the student’s love of music and advanced academic knowledge of music theory.
